The Higher Keys
The Higher Keys have been singing together since 1983 (making us Brown’s oldest all-gender a cappella group)! Our collection of member-written arrangements includes a diverse range of music—from jazz standards to pop bangers. We are currently working on our eighth album, and we have toured in cities including New York City, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Charleston, Chicago, Washington, D.C., and as far away as Athens, Greece.
Other favorite Keys events include welcoming our babs (new members!) into the group with midnight adventures, pajama-clad concerts, and gallon-buckets of ice cream. Though we love to have a good time, we always prioritize the comfort of current and prospective members. We also acknowledge Brown a cappella’s history of elitism (including the Keys’), choosing to respond with social justice-minded community engagement and a commitment to equitable and empathetic practices.

"It's my core friend group at Brown. Some of us are even living together."
on the culture of the Higher Keys
"On our most recent tour before COVID, in San Francisco, we started singing “St James” on train all the way across The Bay. Energy in the train was incredible."
